Bee and Wasp Control in Las Vegas

Encountering  yellow jackets, bumblebees, honey bees, carpenter bees, digger wasps, hornets, mud daubers, ground hornets, and bald-faced hornets—can be concerning, especially when they establish nests near human activity areas. While some of these insects are beneficial pollinators, others can pose risks through aggressive behavior and potential property damage.

Understanding Different Stinging Insects:

  • Bees (e.g., Honey Bees, Bumblebees, Carpenter Bees): Bees are typically hairy insects that feed on nectar and pollen. They play a crucial role in pollination. Carpenter bees, for instance, are solitary and nest in wood, creating round holes. While they can cause structural damage over time, they are generally not aggressive unless provoked.

  • Wasps (e.g., Yellow Jackets, Hornets, Mud Daubers): Wasps have smooth bodies and can be more aggressive than bees. Yellow jackets are particularly notorious for their aggressive behavior, especially when defending their nests. Hornets are a type of wasp and can be larger, with some species like the bald-faced hornet building large, papery nests in trees or under eaves.

Signs of Nesting Near Your Property:

  • Increased activity of the insects around specific areas.

  • Visible nests attached to structures or hidden within wall voids.

  • Buzzing sounds emanating from walls or ceilings.

  • Presence of swarms during the colony's reproductive phase.

Safety Precautions:

  • Avoid Disturbance: Do not approach or disturb nests, as this can provoke aggressive behavior.

  • Protective Clothing: If you must be near a nest, wear long sleeves, pants, gloves, and a veil to minimize exposed skin.

  • Allergy Awareness: Be mindful of potential allergic reactions. If stung, seek medical attention promptly, especially if you experience symptoms like swelling, difficulty breathing, or dizziness.

Preventive Measures:

  • Seal Entry Points: Inspect your home for cracks, gaps, and holes, especially around windows, doors, and the foundation. Seal these openings with appropriate materials like caulk or weatherstripping to prevent wasps and bees from entering.

  • Maintain Cleanliness: Keep outdoor areas free of food scraps and sugary substances that attract these insects.

  • Remove Attractants: Be cautious with outdoor food and drinks. Clean up spills promptly to avoid attracting wasps and bees.

  • Professional Removal: For nests located in hard-to-reach areas or when dealing with aggressive species, contact Townsend Pest Control. we have the equipment and expertise to safely remove them.
